Oh yeah, yeah, I tried, Rose said after shootaround Tuesday.

The Broncos have wide receiver Hunter Sharp, who was with the team throughout the offseason and training camp, on the practice squad if they believe they need to add a receiver to the roster.

Who’s just about out: Giants (1-5), 49ers (0-6). Sunday night’s win at Denver is just one of many minor miracles New York will need to make happen to vie for a final seed, as being four back in the division and two back in the wild-card race already feels insurmountable. San Francisco is playing for next year.

Scherzer struck out seven before he was pulled after Ben Zobrist doubled to left-center on his 98th pitch for Chicago’s first hit with one out in the seventh. With Washington clinging to a 1-0 lead, Baker opted for left-hander Sammy Solis, who had a 5.88 ERA during the regular season, and Maddon countered by sending Almora to hit for the lefty-batting Schwarber.

Oh yeah, yeah, I tried, Rose said after shootaround Tuesday. People always said that I didn’t recruit. I tried to recruit. I put out the video, but it wasn’t for me to say that. I felt like it was for the organization to say that.

Myers struggled during training camp and preseason but got off to a solid start before struggling in two of the last three games. Meyers missed a 52-yard field goal attempt against the New York Jets in a game the Jaguars lost 23-20 in overtime and missed a pair of 54-yard field goal attempts in the Jaguars’ 27-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Myers made 11 of 14 field goal attempts and 15 of 17 PATs this season and all three of his missed field goals were from 50 yards or longer. His two misses against the Rams were wide left by a significant margin.

That left the 38-year-old QB, who has played for eight teams in his 15-year career, outplaying future Hall of Famer Tom Brady at MetLife Stadium. Brady had 257 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception as the Patriots worked to fight their way back into this game.sabres_004

Browns finally got a lead this season right after benching DeShone Kizer

Posted on by

The Cleveland Browns took the lead in a game in 2017 for the first time thanks to a diving, one-handed touchdown grab by David Njoku.

In each of Cleveland’s first four losses to open the season, the Browns were tied or behind for the entire game, but the defense has done well against the Jets so far in Week 5 to keep things close. A normal team would have grabbed a lead much earlier, but Cleveland’s impossibly bad luck kept the team scoreless in the first half.

After spending what seemed like an Barkevious Mingo Womens Jersey eternity with Tom Savage at quarterback, the Texans finally handed the reins over to the rookie Watson. Since then, it’s been a completely new Houston team. During last week’s record-setting win, Watson joined Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Fran Tarkenton (1961) as the only rookies in NFL history to throw for at least 250 yards (283) with four passing and one rushing touchdown in the same game.

With the offenses preparing for a high-scoring matchup, the fate of this primetime Authentic Josh McCown Jersey game will be in the hands of each team’s defense.

This Week 5 game will be one of the more offensively loaded games on Sunday, but the real similarity is the surprisingly productive and successful seasons the two teams’ quarterbacks are having.

Two drives for the team in the first half got inside the 5-yard line and both ended with Kizer turnovers. The first was a fumble and the second was a bad interception that erased a chance at a chip-shot field goal.

But even field goals were hard to come by. Zane Gonzalez entered the game two-of-three on field goal attempts and seven-of-seven on extra points. On Sunday, he missed 52-yard and 39-yard field goals that would’ve given the Browns the lead.

Opponents have figured out to pass over and around Milwaukee’s frenzied trapping defense.

Continuity helps, and their starting lineup with Malcolm Brogdon, Thon Maker, Khris Middleton and Tony Snell — and without Jabari Parker — blitzed opponents by 12 points per 100 possessions once Jason Kidd landed on it.

But, man, are they thin until Parker comes back — likely in February at the earliest, per league sources. Their top three reserves are Matthew Dellavedova, Mirza Teletovic and Greg Monroe. Teletovic spent time out of the rotation last season, and lineups pairing Dellavedova and Brogdon — a necessity given the short bench — were a disaster. Monroe might be the single most important bench player in the league.

Only four teams allowed more shots in the restricted area; only seven gave up more 3s.

Of course, Denver should not start securing permits for a downtown parade this June. These things take time. And just like the Warriors before them, it’s most certainly a long shot, especially when you’re doing it without the benefit of an obvious franchise-changer like LeBron. When the Warriors won the title in 2014-15, they became the first champions in the lottery era to win it all without a single top-five pick among their top five in minutes played. But even that team had seasoned pedigree in former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut and former No. 4 overall pick Shaun Livingston. That team entered the season projected to finish seventh in the West.tigers_047-115x115

Michael Beasley, Knicks ‘nearing’ a 2-year deal, per report

Posted on by

Elite Zane Beadles Jersey Michael Beasley and the New York Knicks have signed a one-year deal, the Knicks announced on Thursday. Beasley, a former No. 2 overall pick, played 56 games with the Milwaukee Bucks last season.

The deal would be for the veteran’s minimum, reports ESPN’s Ian Begley.

Elite Chad Kelly Jersey But then, flight attendants went row by row, asking if anyone would relocate to the very last row of the plane. Maker accepted the attendant’s offer and trotted to the back of the plane. He shared that row with Paul Kuzma, who told the entire story on Facebook.

He couldn’t even fit his knees into the Economy seat! Every time the snack cart came by or someone had to use the restroom, he had to get up and move out of their way.

The entire flight, there was not a hint of resentment in his voice. He was even happy to allow me a picture with him and an autograph. Class act, Thon!
If I was 7’1, I probably wouldn’t have traded my relatively cozy, comfy seat for the worst one on the flight. But it appears Maker was grateful he made that flight so he could be on time for a Bucks practice he had the next morning.

As Kuzma wrote, that’s a class act, Thon. Now, go take some of that pent-up anger out on the rim.

Hudson began his NBA career playing for Rivers, a draft pick of the Celtics in 2009. That said, he only played 16 games for Boston, and spent most of his lone season under Rivers bouncing back and forth with the Celtics’ D-League affiliate.

Steelers’ rejuvenated defense follows lead of James Harrison, ‘Killer LBs’

Posted on by

Running back Le’Veon Bell and wide receiver Antonio Brown deserve to dominate Pittsburgh headlines after the Steelers’ 30-12 wild-card rout of the Dolphins on Sunday.

The continued prolific, exceptional play of the Killer Bs was a given for the playoffs, however. After all, even the two Super Bowl favorites, New England and Dallas, aren’t capable of slowing that duo down.

But more impressive and imperative than Bell and Brown combining for 298 yards of offense was the fact that the Dolphins were limited to 305 yards. That led to the score being flipped from the Steelers’ Week 6 loss at Miami, where they gave up 474 yards 222 of it rushing.

The Giants are an organization at a crossroads, but there are signs as to which way they’ll go. The chances of a full-on rebuild are slim, for a few reasons. It’s not in the team’s DNA to to blow things up, and when the Giants have been bad in the past (the 2013 season comes to mind) they’ve tended to keep their roster in tact and not make wholesale changes at the trade deadline. They clearly value continuity and sticking with players they know.

Plus, the Giants have constructed their roster in such a way that a full rebuild just doesn’t seem possible. They are clearly a team that’s built to contend, with their star players — Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, etc. — signed to long-term deals with no-trade protections. And while they’re getting perilously close to being on the wrong side of 30, most of their core group are still productive. It hasn’t worked out this year, but it’s hard to see the Giants giving up so quickly on a group to which they’ve made so many multiyear commitments.

Jason McCourty is the latest addition to Browns’ revamped defense

Posted on by

Jason McCourty developed from overlooked sixth-round draft pick to team captain in eight years with the Tennessee Titans. Now, the veteran cornerback is on to the next stage of his NFL career — with the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Wednesday.

The deal is expected to be for two years and would reunite McCourty with Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was an assistance defensive coach for the Titans in 2013.

Jackson enjoyed being around the animals so much, he wanted to take several home with him. Malik’s Gifts director Rodney Smith told SB Nation, “I think he’s going to end up [adopting], he fell in love with about 10 of them.”

The entire event was possible because PetSmart had its national adoption weekend, sponsored by PetSmart charities. With PetSmart able to host the event, Jackson decided to handle the fees for those adopting the pets.

It ended up being one of the biggest weekends for the JHS in terms of dog and cat adoptions, providing timely relief to shelters. “A bunch of the locations were full,” Smith told SB Nation. “This really helped all the centers out where they hold the adoptions.”

Jackson’s been busy with charitable work since he joined the Jaguars in 2016, with nearly $80,000 of Jackson’s own money have been poured into the Jacksonville community.

“Malik has this special quality about him,” Smith said. “Not only did he put up his money, but he makes himself available.”

Layendecker and the Jacksonville Humane Society were thankful to Jackson and the Jaguars for always being supportive of the organization’s efforts.

it’s going to take time and effort to make him an NFL safety.

“(Barnett) does not have elite burst, that explosiveness that you’d like to have in an edge-rusher,” he said in his Move the Sticks podcast. “I was around Terrell Suggs a little bit with the Ravens, who’s another guy that didn’t test all that well. But man, he was plenty fast enough when you got on the football field. I think you see some of those same things with Barnett. I don’t think he’s quite at that Suggs level, but I think he’s definitely got a chance to be a double-digit sack guy at the next level.”

One saving grace is his performance against SEC competition. Barnett had a penchant for starting slow with Tennessee, though he typically saved his best performances for key conference matchups — and the best offensive lines the Volunteers would face. While even an Alabama lineup is a far cry from an NFL one, it’s still encouraging.

He’ll have to refine his speed-rush technique while adding a few new wrinkles to compete with NFL offensive linemen. SB Nation’s Stephen White points out that a stronger inside move — whether that’s punching tackles back and working through the gap or developing a spin to redirect his momentum toward the pocket after his first two steps — would make him a nightmare for opposing blockers.

Any team hoping to add him to its secondary will do so knowing he’s an unfinished project; it’s going to take time and effort to make him an NFL safety.

If teams are looking for an uber-athletic project, Peppers may not even be the No. 1 choice. Connecticut’s Obi Melifonwu wowed scouts with a tremendous all-around performance at the combine, posting the event’s second-longest broad jump of all time, notching a near four-foot vertical leap, and running an even 4.40-second 40-yard dash. With four interceptions and 118 tackles last fall, he’s got better safety bonafides than the Michigan standout as well.

An emotional Isaiah Thomas received heartwarming welcome before 1st playoff game

Posted on by

On Saturday, it was reported Isaiah Thomas’ sister, Chyna Thomas, passed away after a car accident in their home state of Washington. The All-Star guard insisted on playing in Game 1 of Celtics’ first-round matchup against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.

He was welcomed onto the court by an emotional TD Garden crowd.

There was a bonus built into Harkless’ contract that would pay him $500,000 if his three-point shooting was above 35 percent on the season. Entering the final game he was sitting at 35.1. A single missed three would have pushed him below the threshold and had him finish the season at 34.8 percent. So he did what he had to, and didn’t attempt a shot.

It wasn’t just this game, either. Harkless didn’t attempt a single three in his final four games. By ensuring he finished with 35.1 percent from behind the line, Harkless earned a cool $500,000. You’ve got the respect the hustle. If you think this was a coincidence and Harkless just happened to not get a good look, well, think again.

Props to Harkless for pulling the “dinner’s on me” card and going to a Mexican restaurant. That’s a thrifty-ass way to pay the bill when every dish is like, $15 tops.

Naturally, people felt he did the right thing by passing up a three in a meaningless final regular season game.

That’s hardly surprising

Instead of chicken strips, I’ve substituted broth. It helps the mixing process. In addition, it’s important that we put in some traditional Japanese ingredients. Because nothing pairs with chocolate quite like:

And then that friend hates you throughout school and punches you and steals your lunch so you make your own out of vending machine Utz Cheese Balls, chocolate milk and lemonade mix?

When free agency began, the top offensive linemen were gobbled up quickly, some to to record deals. That’s hardly surprising. Protecting the quarterback and establishing balance with an effective run game are keys to success in the NFL. This year, though, the priority on offensive linemen is a little different.

The overwhelming majority of “who’s going to the draft/who’s coming back” drama has yet to play out, and the annual transfer market will only start really heating up now. Basically, we still have a significant amount to learn before we have any real idea of what the landscape of the college hoops world is going to look like heading into the 2017-18 season.

The Seahawks have struggled to stop the run in recent weeks

Posted on by

The Chargers and Dolphins both got off to solid starts this season, but things have gone sour lately. San Diego has lost two straight games and has a difficult schedule remaining playing in the AFC West. San Diego is one of just two teams with a positive point differential and a losing record.

Miami is even more of a mess, combining on-the-field struggles with an off-the-field circus. The Dolphins have lost three straight, including last week to the previously-winless Buccaneers. Despite the issues on both sides, the winner of the game could be tied for the final wild card slot if the Jets lose.

Sunday’s game in Seattle is watchable for many reasons, but a lot of eyes will be on Percy Harvin. The former Minnesota wide receiver is expected to make his 2017 debut against his old team. Harvin may not play a lot, but if he’s anything close to his old form, he may only need a few snaps to make a major impact.

The Seahawks have struggled to stop the run in recent weeks, setting up an interesting matchup with Adrian Peterson. Seattle was better last week, but could risk being upset if they fail to slow Peterson. A home loss to 2-7 Minnesota could prove costly in Seattle quest for home-field advantage.

He stripped the house to the studs in a 1-11 Year Zero reset, but after two slightly unsatisfying 8-5 seasons, his Broncos broke through in 2017, and he was still around to lead it.

WMU went 9-0 against the MAC and 2-1 against the Big Ten in 2017. The Broncos knocked off Northwestern and Illinois on the road early, trounced Georgia Southern in what was supposed to be a mid-major showcase, and then laid waste to conference foes: 49-10 over CMU, 41-0 over Akron, 52-20 over Ball State, 38-0 over Buffalo, 55-35 over Toledo.
