Roger Clemens on Hall of Fame: ‘I did what I needed to do’

Posted on by

Authentic Womens Robert Thomas Jersey Roger Clemens had a lot to say Friday night in Houston, including a few words about the Hall of Fame.

Before his turn as a guest radio analyst on the Red Sox’s broadcast, he talked to reporters about a wide range of issues, Cooperstown among them. His public stance on the Hall remains the same even as he gets closer to enshrinement with five years of eligibility remaining.

After the Red Sox’s 6-5 win over the Astros, John Farrell told reporters the swelling limited Pedroia’s range of motion.

The pitch hit in the left lat area, left rib cage. It continued to swell and tighten up, Farrell said (via ESPN). He was losing a lot of range of motion with the left arm, so we had to get him off his feet.

After Pedroia’s exit from the game, Josh Rutledge moved from third base to second and Pablo Sandoval came in to play third. That’s likely the move Farrell would make if Pedroia can’t go Monday.

Authentic Womens Taywan Taylor Jersey With Sunday’s win and the Yankees’ loss in Oakland, the Red Sox moved into a virtual tie for first place in the AL East. Boston (39-30) trails New York (38-20) by .002.

The news comes exactly two weeks after Melisa Russell posted on Instagram an image of her in a bathing suit with text reading, Being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day. #herestonewbeginnings #onlygetsbetterfromhere

The post has since been deleted. But it prompted Russell to make a statement the next day. Any allegation I have abused my wife is false and hurtful, Russell said. For the well-being of my family, I’ll have no further comment.

MLB launched an investigation into the allegations that same day. At the time, a Chicago Police Department spokesperson said the department did not have any investigation into the matter.

Russell and his wife had a son, Aiden, in August 2015. They married in January 2016.

NFL playoff picture: Lions’ loss puts Packers, Redskins in business

Posted on by

What does the NFL playoff picture look like after Week 16?

Champions, East. New England went in with the division title and a first-round bye locked. After thrashing the Jets, the Patriots stayed ahead of the Raiders in their quest to lock down the top seed and home-field advantage.

First place, West. Oakland, already in the playoffs as at least a wild card, beat the Colts to keep pace with New England in the race for the top seed and made sure Kansas City couldn’t leap back into first place in the division in Week 16. The Raiders need to win next week or hope the Chiefs lose then to lock up the division.

Point is, Thome was much more than a homer-cranking, one-trick baseball pony. He was a well-rounded offensive player whose accomplishments were perhaps misplaced or overlooked in the noise and controversy created by the Steroid Era.

Thome has never been linked to PEDs. By all accounts, he did everything right. Which is why he could (read: should) find himself in the Hall of Fame class of 2018, his first year eligible. It’ll be a crowded ballot, with holdovers and newcomers including Chipper Jones, meaning a first-ballot induction for Thome could be a challenge.

It seems weird to say that a clean player with 600 homers might not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but, again, here we are.

This is the story of Jim Thome’s quiet baseball life. Always great, often overshadowed.

Isaiah Thomas contemplating surgery for injured hip

Posted on by

Isaiah Thomas has a decision to make.

The Celtics guard met with a hip specialist Tuesday to determine whether surgery would be necessary to repair his injured hip.

Bosh, who sat out last season and missed the latter half of the previous two seasons because of blood clots, has a guaranteed contract that would pay him $25.3 million next season and $26.8 million for the 2018-19 season. But most of his contract is covered by insurance and his contract will no longer count against the Heat’s salary cap.

Elite Womens Trevor Linden Jersey The 33-year-old Bosh would like to resume his career despite his potentially fatal condition, but it’s unlikely any team will take a risk by signing the 11-time All-Star.

Bosh’s blood clots moved into his lung in 2015, but received immediate treatment with blood thinners. Those blood thinners, which are used as typical treatment for clots, create another potentially dangerous situation if Bosh were cut or badly bumped, causing bruising, while playing.
Elite Womens Mackensie Alexander Jersey
Removing Bosh’s salary from the Heat’s books will clear up about $37 million in cap space when the new league year begins on July 1.

It’s funny cause I told him earlier in the year, I said, 鈥業t’s cool that you’re here, but we really don’t need you for the regular season. We kinda gonna need you for these Finals.’ And he stepped up big and made plays for us.

In short, Durant, once the lifeline of a franchise in Oklahoma City, knows he’s just insurance for the Warriors. That’s fine with him, which means problems 鈥?big problems 鈥?for the rest of the league.

Isaiah Thomas: It’s ‘BS’ Brad Stevens isn’t finalist for NBA Coach of the Year

Posted on by

LeBron James wasn’t selected as a finalist for NBA MVP. And Isaiah Thomas has a beef with his coach being left off the list of finalists for Coach of the Year.

The Celtics guard had some pretty harsh criticism for the panel of NBA media members who determined the finalists for the league’s top awards.

Thomas used a question about potential free agents coming to the Celtics to vent about the omission of Celtics coach Brad Stevens from the list of the three coaches who were selected as Coach of the Year finalists — Miami’s Erik Spoelstra, San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich and Houston’s Mike D’Antoni.

Brandon Doughty Youth Jersey The first technical, which came after Green was flabbergasted that he had a foul called on him after clobbering Iman Shumpert in the face, was a little confusing because both Kerr and Green were arguing the call.

The ref who made the call signaled for a tech, but did not point toward who he made the call on. The result was all-out chaos.
Connor Hellebuyck Youth Jersey
This game seemed out of the refs hands all throughout the first three quarters. Tempers flared repeatedly, LeBron James and Kevin Durant argued. Kevin Love was given a flagrant foul for an infraction on Durant that was a clear play on the ball. Zaza Pachulia later hit Iman Shumpert in the groin and a fan was ejected in the ensuing melee as the officials attempted to get things in order.

Despite great offensive production from both teams as the Cavaliers held a 115-96 lead, the game had little flow through three quarters and the refs need to be held responsible. The game was reckless and out of control.

Green’s second technical probably didn’t need to be called, but he needs to be smarter in those situations. Refs are watching him, and he continuously gives them reasons to call technical fouls on him.

Steelers’ rejuvenated defense follows lead of James Harrison, ‘Killer LBs’

Posted on by

Running back Le’Veon Bell and wide receiver Antonio Brown deserve to dominate Pittsburgh headlines after the Steelers’ 30-12 wild-card rout of the Dolphins on Sunday.

The continued prolific, exceptional play of the Killer Bs was a given for the playoffs, however. After all, even the two Super Bowl favorites, New England and Dallas, aren’t capable of slowing that duo down.

But more impressive and imperative than Bell and Brown combining for 298 yards of offense was the fact that the Dolphins were limited to 305 yards. That led to the score being flipped from the Steelers’ Week 6 loss at Miami, where they gave up 474 yards 222 of it rushing.

The Giants are an organization at a crossroads, but there are signs as to which way they’ll go. The chances of a full-on rebuild are slim, for a few reasons. It’s not in the team’s DNA to to blow things up, and when the Giants have been bad in the past (the 2013 season comes to mind) they’ve tended to keep their roster in tact and not make wholesale changes at the trade deadline. They clearly value continuity and sticking with players they know.

Plus, the Giants have constructed their roster in such a way that a full rebuild just doesn’t seem possible. They are clearly a team that’s built to contend, with their star players — Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, etc. — signed to long-term deals with no-trade protections. And while they’re getting perilously close to being on the wrong side of 30, most of their core group are still productive. It hasn’t worked out this year, but it’s hard to see the Giants giving up so quickly on a group to which they’ve made so many multiyear commitments.

Twitter has questions for doctor who cleared Matt Moore after crushing hit

Posted on by

Dolphins QB Matt Moore missed only one play after taking a vicious hit from the SteelersBud Dupree in Sunday’s AFC wild-card playoff game.
Game Kids Stephone Anthony Jersey
Moore was almost immediately cleared to play, leaving Twitter with a lot of questions.

Limited Michael Floyd Jersey Brady threw for 3,554 yards and 28 touchdowns to only two interceptions as the Patriots went 11-1 with him as the starter. That projects to about 4,738, 37 and three for a full season. His completion percentage (67.4) was the second highest of his career. Only twice has he rated higher than this season’s 112.2.

Bradys interception percentage was the lowest of his career, and his adjusted yards per attempt (9.3) was only a decimal point less than that of 07. He was on pace to take only 20 sacks, his second-lowest total for a full season.

Consider, then, that he did it with several unfamiliar targets Martellus Bennett, Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Hogan, James White as Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola and Dion Lewis all missed significant time. His TD total was only limited because of the anomalistic fact that LeGarrette Blount rushed for 18 scores.

Then theres that vengeance narrative; that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had hell to pay for coming down so hard on his leagues long-time best player.

Although its overblown, theres no doubt Bradys relentless competitiveness has always been fueled by his draft diss. Putting any extra chips on his shoulder was bound to be used to his and his teams advantage.

No wonder the Patriots are 16-point favorites in their first 2017 playoff game and remain heavy favorites to add a fifth Super Bowl title.

After all Brady did in 07, remember he didnt end that season with a ring. If anyone is still convinced he was better then, getting one for the thumb would confirm hes better now.

Jason Pierre-Paul on free ageny value: No one like me ‘with 7 1/2 fingers’

Posted on by

Elite Youth Kyle Fuller Jersey
Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul wants to play next season but is adamant it won’t be on a one-year deal.
There’s not really a guy like me out here doing it with seven and a half fingers, Pierre-Paul told Newsday.

Pierre-Paul will be a free agent this offseason and wants a long-term deal.

JPP’s infamous 2015 fireworks accident may have cost him a few fingers, but not his sense of humor when it comes to digits.

For those counting, Pierre-Paul posted seven sacks in 12 regular-season games this season.

He’s a juco star who has been lighting up the radar gun lately. And you know how much scouts love guys who can hit triple digits with their fastball.
Matt Ryan Authentic Jersey (Compensation for Cleveland signing Edwin Encarnacion)

Lange is probably better than this spot, way down in the first round. But every year, someone slides down further than expected and a team in this spot gets lucky. The Cubs would be thrilled to wind up with a polished college right-hander.

Unlike lots of prep shortstops who profile at second or third base down the road, Allen’s future is at shortstop in the bigs. He’s not a big fella (5-8) but there’s a lot to like about what he brings to an organization. When he takes the field for the Falcons on Sunday against the visiting Packers, Freeney will be representing his third different franchise in five career conference title game. Freeney said the Falcons vibe reminds him of his glory days with Indianapolis in the 2000s ‘when everything was jelling’ and the Colts reached three AFC title games.

‘This is a very, very close-knit team,’ Freeney told co-host Gil Brandt and me Wednesday night on SiriusXM NFL Radio. ‘The Brotherhood is what we call it over here. It’s all about each other.

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo tells Orioles to quit whining about rescheduled game

Posted on by

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo delivered a succinct message to Orioles manager Buck Showalter, GM Dan Duquette and any other folks from Baltimore upset about the rescheduling of the teams May 11 game to this past Thursday night: Quit whining.

When the teams were supposed to play in May, the Orioles were not only healthier, they also had ace Dylan Bundy ready to start. Thursday, neither Adam Jones nor Manny Machado two of Baltimores best hitters were in the lineup, and Alec Asher, not Bundy, was on the bump. ?

Asher gave up four runs in the first inning, one in the second, and the Nationals won, 6-1.

While the Orioles wont say so publicly, the Washington Post reports the team believes the Nationals had an ulterior motive for postponing the game from May 11 they wanted to avoid putting right-hander A.J. Cole on the mound.

Lot of byproducts of the cancellation, an irked Showalter said after the Thursdays game, per The Post.
Limited Youth Shamar Stephen Jersey
He added flippantly of the weather, I think its marginally better tonight.

But Rizzo said that Showalter who he used to work with at the Diamondbacks agreed the May 11 game should have been postponed when the decision was made.
Limited Youth Aaron Burbridge Jersey
It rained all day that day, and the forecast said it would rain until 9:30 or 10, Rizzo said, per The Post. I sat in Bucks office at 6:30, and we talked about it for 20 minutes. He was 100-percent on-board. He didnt say anything about not canceling the game.

Their GM (Dan Duquette) was nowhere to be found for three, four hours. We wanted to play the next (mutual off) day. They refused to play then, so the next (mutual) day was (Thursday). They drove 32 miles to get there. We flew 3,000 (expletive) miles (from Los Angeles), and we beat their (behinds). So quit your whining. Quit whining.

NFL Honors: Matt Ryan wins MVP the night before Super Bowl 51

Posted on by

The night before he will lead the Falcons in Super Bowl 51, Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan received the highest individual NFL honor.

Ryan was named the 2016 league MVP during Saturday night’s NFL Honors awards show at Houston’s Wortham Theater Center.

The nine-year veteran was already named the 2016 MVP by the Pro Football Writers Association and was the first-team quarterback on the Associated Press All-Pro team before receiving the AP’s MVP award on Saturday. Ryan was also named the FedEx Air Player of the Year and the league’s Offensive Player of the Year on Saturday.

Ryan received 25 of the 50 votes with Brady coming in second with 10 votes. Surprisingly, Elliott tied Raiders quarterback Derek Carr for third with six votes apiece. Rodgers was fifth and Prescott, the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, received one vote.

The NFL last month denied a report that Lady Gaga was prohibited from mentioning Donald Trump during her performance.

“The only statements that I’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” Lady Gaga said this week in Houston, per the New York Times. “I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness. My performance will uphold those philosophies.”

The artist did say the performance will have a unifying message.

“I don’t know if I will succeed in unifying America,” she said. “You’ll have to ask America when it’s over.”avalanche-004_678116888e28a28b-180x180

For Tom Brady, retirement after Super Bowl 51 would preserve superhuman image

Posted on by

“Kyle really cares about the team and our success,” Schraeder said. “He tries to put us in position to be successful, based on our skill sets. He’s been great to the players, and it’s easy to have a lot of respect for him.”

The younger Shanahan once dreamed of following his passion and living up to his football pedigree as an NFL receiver. But when he realized that wasn’t going to be an option, he applied all of his football energy to making this evolution to head coach. In addition to his father, he’s had championship-winning mentors all the way, college and pro 鈥?see Mack Brown, Jon Gruden and Gary Kubiak.

Alec Ogletree Womens Jersey The fact that Shanahan never forgets what it was like to be a player on a loaded team at Texas gives him an extra edge as a coach.

Tedric Thompson Womens Jersey “He puts in so much work,” Schrader said. “He’s working to get right mentally for every game, visualizing situations that happen so he can respond quickly.”

If Tom Brady had it his way, he’d play football until dentures served as his mouthpiece. The term ageless fails to define the Patriots quarterback, who at 39 put together arguably the greatest season of his 17-year career.

A record fifth Super Bowl victory for an NFL quarterback has no bearing on Brady’s status as the best of all time. In the minds of the vast majority, that debate ended long ago.

So when Brady says he does not “see an end in sight” when asked about the remainder of his career, we believe him. But what if he’s near-sighted? The Patriot Way, after all, does not permit a player to reveal anything of significance ahead of schedule.
